PRODUCT INGREDIENTS

Health Canada has made amendments to how ingredients are listed on cosmetic and skin care products. Ingredients must be listed using the International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) system. Though confusing to the general public, this system uses only one name for each ingredient, based on the Latin language. Below, each ingredient is listed by it's English name and INCI name:

PRODUCT SAFETY

Essential oils (EO) are highly concentrated and need to be diluted prior to use in a vegetable carrier oil or lotion base. Tea tree and lavender are generally safe for neat (undiluted) topical application. It is recommended that a patch test be performed prior to use.

Those with very sensitive skin and allergies should perform a patch test prior to using essential oils. Apply one drop of the essential oil in a carrier oil, to the crook of the elbow and leave uncovered for 24 hours. If there is a reaction to the oil, do not use it. Ensure that you are not reacting to the carrier oil.

Children and Babies
Do not use essential oils topically on children under the age of one year. Hydrosols are a better option for babies. For children over this age, use about 1/4 the amount recommended for adults.

Citrus oils may cause photosensitivity. Avoid sunlight following use.

Storage
Essential oils should be kept away from light, heat sources, children and animals.

To prolong the shelf life of all products, keep them in a cool, dry place, away from light, use clean hands at each application and do not touch the essential oil flow restrictors.
